PADDY'S KITCHEN MAKEOVER
click on any photo to ENLARGE

May 8, 2007.  Paddy asked me what I thought of having a new kitchen. I said:  "Well, the current kitchen looks fine to me, but since it's important to you............OK".  (from past experience I know that Paddy would eventually win this one, so I gave in early).  Oddly enough, a young lady arrived at the house the very next day, with cabinet samples, of the correct color too.  Who would have guessed that one could get a vendor that quickly..........

Here are the BEFORE photos.  Looks like a nice kitchen to me.

Wednesday July 18, 2007, work started.  The old cabinets were ripped out and the new cabinet boxes were brought in and stored.  Paddy and I were in a "paper plate, plastic ware and restaurant" mode.

Thursday July 19:  Electrical power, gas lines and water lines were disconnected permitting the removal of the faucets, sink, garbage disposal, dishwasher and oven.  The refrigerator stayed in place but the water line for ice cubes was removed.  (We bought a bag of ice and it worked fine).   July 20: Cabinet installation started. Despite plastic ware, some dishes were required and were washed in the shower of the guest bathroom.

Monday July 23-24:  Cabinet installation was fully underway by Bob Haug.  The original kitchen design had a drawer under the stove that wasn't constructed, as a result, work was stopped on July 25-26 to work out the correction.  July 27: The missing drawer was installed.  July 30 was a no work day in the kitchen while the counter top was completed at the shop.  July 31:  The counter top was installed along with the sink, water faucet and stove.  The water and gas lines were activated.  With the water line connected, the refrigerator was again making ice.  The stove and dishwasher were still not active pending installation of the electrical circuits.  (Gas stove uses electrical igniter).

August 1:  The electrical work was completed with the exception of a small under the counter light that is still on order.  We now have all the appliances  working and Paddy cooked our first dinner via the new kitchen.    The project took exactly 2 weeks from the starting point to the new functioning kitchen.  The remaining vendor items beside the counter light are:  installing tiles above the counter top, replacement of one of the cabinet doors with glass doors and a missing shelf.

             Wed Aug 1.

August 9:  The backordered counter lamp came in and the electrician installed it.  He also completed the base panel assembly on the dishwasher and installed a new white ceiling fan.  All that remains from the contractor is tile work above the counter top, two glass cabinet doors and a missing shelf.

August 17:  The backordered glass cabinet doors arrived and were installed, along with the missing shelf.  All that remains from the contractor is tile work above the counter top.  Locally we will have some painting done and will re-install the shelves, near the exit door, for all the cooking books.

                            Fri. Aug 17.

August 21:  Kitchen King completed the project today with the installation of the tiles.  All that remains is some wall and ceiling paint and the re-installation of  the cook book shelves near the exit door.

                                      Tue. Aug 21.

August 31:  ALL DONE !!  Ceiling and walls were painted, several new small appliances were added, new towels, new radio, new book shelf organizers were in place and a new bulletin board was attached to the wall by the telephone.  After it was finished, Ken said: "Yep, it really looks better, nice job Paddy !"

October 2, 2007.  With many summer day trips and a few picnics, Paddy and I have been eating outside, so it was our pleasure to entertain our first kitchen guests Robert and Donna to lunch.
