A friend of mine gave me this tube and said: "I don't know what it is, do you?". Nope, I couldn't Identify it either.
It's 14 inches tall. there are three wires connected to a disc inside the tube. The tube is open at the top. It looks as though something is to be slipped inside the tube in contact with the disc. Or maybe a conductive liquid is to be poured inside the tube and activated by the current applied to the disc ??
On each side of the base is an electrical contact. There are three wires attached to the inside disc. The resistance is very low but it looks like the center wire is connected to the frame and the two outer wires are connected to each of the electrical contacts. Enlarging the photo we see that the mystery tube is made by MACHLETT.
Dave, G3UUR identified the tube as a Machlett X-ray tube. Dave said that the tube should have a "CU" or "MO" marking somewhere. Well after rubbing a number 2 pencil on the markings and enlarging them, sure enough there is the "CU" label. Thanks Dave.
